A New Kind of Flow with FlowCORPS
Want to add a little more intensity to your fitness routine? Look no further than FlowCORPS. Now open in Downtown Raleigh, this workout will test your limits and have you leaving dripping sweat. A mixture of cardio intervals and pilates, this workout takes your mom’s XFormer workout to another level.
Located on West St, just a few doors down from my favorite hot dog bar, The Cardinal, FlowCORPS has plenty of parking both beside of the building as well as on the street. Bright and airy, the studio is totally welcoming and unassuming. I had the chance to stop in on opening weekend where all classes were free (and totally packed!!).
As a part of the opening weekend celebration, a host of awesome local venders came out to showcase their goods. Before class, I stopped by the IndieGoodz table and grabbed myself a bag of Cuvée Coffee! Now if only I had had a cup before the workout…
One thing that you’ll notice is that the studio is bare bones in the best way. To be completely honest, I have seen Woodway Curve self-powered treadmills popping up lately so I was both excited and scared to use them. Even though I consider myself a “runner” (let’s use that lightly), I have a horrible time pacing myself. Que the visions in my head of me losing control, busting my face on the tread, and then flying onto the concrete floor.
Additionally, I had never used an XFormer so I was equally as scared. Based on a few friends reviews of FlowCORPS thus far (that sounded a little like “this is the hardest workout i’ve ever done” or “I never felt so out of shape”), I went into this with pretty low expectations for myself. Taking Tread-X, FlowCORPS signature class, attendees will spend 23 minutes on both the treadmill as well as the XFormer. Not realizing how intense the cardio would actually be, I chose to get on the tread first!
To be completely honest, I STRUGGLED hard core in this class. I’ve been focusing much more on low impact workouts lately and boy could I tell. The tread portion is 23 minutes of various 10-60 second intervals at varying speeds. I was all in at first but then quickly realized that If I pushed any harder, there is no way I would be able to get through the XFormer portion. When the 23 minutes were up, I was out of breath, dripping sweat, and slightly dreading the next part of class. However, for a first timer, it was a lot easier to watch the rest of class do the pilates portion so I knew what to expect before I jumped in!
After a quick water break, my group jumped on our XFormers and started with lunges. Y’all, it was HARD! I def had to modify all of the positions, partly because it was hard and partly because i was wiped from the cardio. Expect lunges, squats, planks, rows, and modified burpees. However, the staff was SUPER kind about how lazy I was being and kept telling me I was doing a great job so major points there, even if I wasn’t! Let’s just say I was EXHAUSTED (and thankful) when the class was over but felt like a million bucks.
All in all, as challenging as the workout was, I had the BEST time and can’t wait go to back.
I personally can’t wait to go back and check out another FlowCORPS class. Want to join? You can grab your first two classes for $20, five for $135, or a monthly membership starting as low as $84!
