Guest Post: Aquaspin by Amanda Dale
Ask just about anyone in France - male or female, young or old, fit or not - about aquabiking, and they'll be able to tell you all about it. The trend has dominated the aqua exercise scene in Europe for over two decades now, and in countries like Italy, Spain, and England you can't swing a dead cat (well, a dead cat near a pool) without running into a facility offering some variation of aquatic cycling.
So why is it virtually unheard of in the United States?
Sure, there is one gym dedicated to the format (aptly named AQUA, in New York City), and a handful of places that offer a class or two, but until now there is no organized variation of the exercise modality we here in Singapore (yes, it's all over Asia now, too! call Aquaspin.
Aquaspin launched in Singapore in 2012 with a strategy similar to Zumba, Piloxing, or a host of other worldwide-branded fitness concepts: to deliver top-quality, standardized, accredited programming in licensed venues all over the globe. At Aquaspin, we train, certify, and support our team using a network of Master Trainers, regional PROs (what we call our instructors), and a Singapore-based corporate staff.
As our mission statement reads, Aquaspin is not a trend - it's a revolution. We have developed five different formats so far (Aquaspin Signature, Aqua Soothe, Aqua Prenatal, Aqua Endure, and Aqua TOUGH) and continue to innovate the aqua exercise market by combining a sports science background with a performance-based approach, making our classes harder, stronger, and more effective than your average aqua offering.
All Aquaspin classes involve full body functional movements; more than just cycling, we use the Poolbiking (our preferred brand) equipment to engage the upper body and core as well as the lower body and cardiovascular system. Our 45-minute classes mean you get a time-effective, muscle-efficient workout while staying cool and comfortable in the pool. Our classes appeal to both the seasoned indoor cyclist, the recovering injured athlete, and the exercise beginner as they can be scaled up or down for difficulty no matter the fitness level of the rider.
As the Master Trainer for Aquaspin, I travel around the world certifying our PRO team and helping bring Aquaspin awareness to people that may have never heard of the concept before. I love what I do and believe in the transformative power of aquatic exercise, and will literally talk your ear off about all the reasons Aquaspin truly is the perfect workout.
Would you ever try an Aquaspin class? Have you heard of the aqua cycling trend? Let me know your thoughts!
