Everyday, someone asks me how my move has been and everyday I say "Ommm..it's okay??". The follow up question is always "Do you miss LA?". I don't. But I do. I was in Los Angeles for 7 years and it's hard to let go of it as I feel like so much of my identity was shaped there. However, it's good to be home.
Since day 1 in NC, I have tried to figure out my new "go to" spots so I figured I would share some of my LA substitutions in Raleigh as well as my weird bootleg rating system.
Last month, I was invited to check out ALICE + OLIVIA's festival-themed See-Now-Buy-Now runway show at NeueHouse in Hollywood. After seeing a bit of the collection and the celebs that would be in attendance (Emily Ratajkowski, Kourtney Kardashian -- just to name a few), I knew I had to invite my partner in crime, Shelby! When we arrived, we were immediately handed champagne to start the night off right.
Training Mate started on the shores of Sydney harbor in 2009 with a simple belief - that moving your body and having fun with your mates could get you in the best shape of your life. While other trainers focused on yelling and screaming, founder Luke Milton drew on his professional rugby background and harnessed the power of positivity and sense of camaraderie to get the best results for his clients.
For someone who wasn't necessarily what society would consider "girly" growing up (shout out to gender stereotypes!), I've always loved makeup. Being a cheerleader, I would always do my teammates makeup while riding on a bouncy bus to away games. When I heard about The Makeup Show LA, I knew I had to go because it sounded like my kind of party!
One of the things I love the most about Los Angeles is the access I have to so many amazing hikes. I will spend days researching and deciding what hike I will do on an upcoming Saturday morning. Through all of this research, I came across the Murphy Ranch Trail.
As a part of our "super healthy lifestyle" initiative, Shelby and I decided to go sober for a little bit. What better way to kick off going sober than to use an expiring Groupon for a wine tasting?! Late Sunday afternoon, we ventured all the way out to the Malibu Family Wines tasting room over at Angeles National Golf Course in Sunland. Just a 25 min drive into The Valley and we were already obsessed with how beautiful everything was.

When the kind folks over at Smithfield Foods brought their Chefs Table series to Los Angeles and asked me if I wanted to come to a fancy preview dinner they were having showcasing DURoC, Smithfield’s premium pork offering, I jumped at the chance. Growing up in NC, I consumed quite a bit of Smithfield's pork products so I knew the food I would be tasting would be quality. Chef Vic from Pistola-LA showed pork’s versatility while delighting palettes through a number of different tasting stations.
Sam Hunt is the ultimate in my book. He's tall, southern, talented, and played college football (a fact I wish that his team/media outlets would stop pushing because he is so much more than a former athlete). My Sam Hunt obsession started over a year ago and I have been waiting to see him live ever since. He's played in LA a few times but it always sells out quickly. Recently, when I found out that he would be playing a special GRAMMY concert, I knew I had to grab tickets before I missed my chance to make my dreams a reality.
I hate Valentine's Day. Even the few times that I have actually had a Valentine (read: twice out of 28), I never really liked or understood the occasion. Hilton Anaheim understands my (and everyone elses) hatred for the holiday,
Being a single female in Los Angeles can sometimes be frightening. I live alone and have street parking which means I sometimes have to walk blocks to my apartment in the dark. Walking to and from my apartment, I always make sure to have my pepper spray and to be hyperaware of my surroundings. In the 6 years I have been in the City of Angels, both my car and my apartment have been broken into. Not the most fun for a slightly paranoid girl from small town NC.

I don't know about you but I have a few travel goals set for 2016. After years of only using my vacation days to go to NC, I have decided it's time to be adventurous! You can imagine how stoked I was to see that Budget Travel's Where To Go 2016 list is bigger and better than ever with amazing (and amazingly affordable!) destinations from around the globe.
Most females my age consider their idols Beyonce, Taylor Swift, or Britney Spears. Are these ladies great? Sure. But they don't really inspire me in any way. (Sorry internet!) Who does inspire me? Mindy Kaling!
Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of Thanksgiving. I have my reasons but for the most part, it all boils down to the stress that surrounds it all. The task of making a huge meal for your entire family can turn the sweetest person into the girl from the Exorcist. I am, however, a big fan of food! Coming from a traditional southern family, I feel like we have the exact same food at every holiday meal: turkey, ham, peas, some sort of potato dish, sweet potato dish, biscuits, cornbread, stuffing. That's it. We never change it up. Because of this, I decided that when I became a REAL big kid, I would be creative with my Thanksgiving meal
I have been fighting a cold for the past week and like any adult, I chose to just complain about it as opposed to taking meds. Facebook somehow knew this because I kept seeing ads for a Pressed Juicery Cold-Buster Kit.
Texan and fellow Avett Bro's lover, Colleen Hoover, has to be one of my favorite writers currently. Ever since April convinced me to read Hopelessin July 2014, I have been flying through Hoover's books with the speed and tenacity that I should have used when it came to school reading assignments. I love her books because at 28, I feel like I have lived through enough crazy friend/guy drama to be able to relate to most of the storylines at least a little.
Having lived in Los Angeles just one month shy of 6 years, I like to consider myself a pretty legit tour guide. It's a rarity that I have visitors but when I do, I like to show them as much as I can in a short amount of time. Also, I generally assume everyone is as poor as I am so I try to be budget friendly.
One of my favorite places in LA has to be the Taschen Gallery on Beverly. I have always been a fan of their photo books but it's awesome to go and view their exhibits in the actual gallery. Taschen holds monthly events that are always fun and usually have free booze with a side of a few celeb sightings.
